In December, UCLG Africa, through its African Local Governments Academy (ALGA) and the Moroccan Association of Presidents of Communal Councils (AMPCC), through the Network of Locally Elected Women of Africa in Morocco (REFELA-Morocco), organized an international training seminar on the theme: "Gender Equality and Empowerment of Women and Girls for the Implementation of SDG 5 and the African Vision on Women's Rights", in Rabat.
ALGA is celebrating its 10 year anniversary this year. At the Africities Summit VIII (20-24 November in Marrakech) ALGA’s main achievements will be showcased. However, we would like to give you a preview already:
ALGA’s achievements in the past 10 years
For UCLG Africa, 2018 will be a pivotal year. Key event is the 8th edition of the Africities Summit in Marrakech, Morocco, on 4-8 December 2018. However, the African Regional Section of UCLG and its African Academy of Local Authorities (ALGA) have many other activities lined up.
December 2016 saw the official opening ceremony of the African Local Governments Academy (ALGA), an institute that aims to become a "genuine strategic lever and a UCLG-Africa spearhead for the professionalisation and the performance of human capital within the African territories". Key activities include monitoring of HR management at the local level, trainings and support to networks at the local level.
