April saw the first Steering Committee of the Global Partnership for Effective Development Cooperation (GPEDC) since its successful High-Level Meeting which took place in Nairobi in November 2016. UCLG Champion for Development Cooperation Mr. Berry Vrbanovic, Mayor of Kitchener and UCLG Treasurer, represented UCLG at the meeting, chaired by the new co-chairs Germany, Bangladesh and Uganda.
At the end of November, delegations from all around the world gathered in Nairobi for the second High Level Meeting (HLM-2) of the Global Partnership for Effective Development Cooperation (GPEDC). The adoption of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development stood central in Nairobi, as it demands for a review and renewal of the development effectiveness agenda. UCLG was also present at this high profile event, to underline among other that the success of the Sustainable Development Gaoals depends on whether they will be carried out correctly, namely at the local level.
At the end of this month, Nairobi will host the Second High-Level Meeting of the Global Partnership for Effective Development Cooperation (GPEDC).
As you might know already, the UCLG committees and working groups play an active role in (the preparations for) the World Congresses of UCLG. With the UCLG Bogotá World Congress (12-15 October 2016) approaching, let us inform you about the CIB Working Group activities for this important event.
"Local governments can be a very important catalyser to address the challenges that we have identified in the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda and other international agreements", said UCLG Deputy Secretary General Emilia Sáiz at a workshop of the Global Partnership on Effective Development Cooperation (GPEDC) in Barcelona.

The Global Partnership for Effective Development Cooperation (GPEDC) Steering Committee met on 3 and 4 September in Mexico, hosted by the Mexican Minister of External Relations. UCLG Champion on Development Cooperation, Berry Vrbanovic, Mayor of Kitchener and Vice-Treasurer of UCLG, supported by the CIB Working Group Secretariat, attended the meeting on behalf of the local and regional constituency represented by UCLG WS and FOGAR in this forum.
