This year’s edition of the UN High Level Political Forum (HLPF) was a crucial milestone, providing an opportunity to review the progress achieved in the consecution of Sustainable Development Goal 11 (SDG 11): “Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable”. As part of this critical process, the 7th report of the Global Taskforce of Local and Regional Governments Towards the Localization of the SDGs was presented on July 13th. The report provides an overview and analysis on the role of LRGs in achieving the SDGs, with a particular focus on the SDG 11, and facilitating a just and sustainable transformation of cities, regions, and territories from the bottom-up. It also offers an in-depth analysis of the SDG localization progress in the countries that presented their Voluntary National Reviews to the HLPF this year, including how local and regional governments (LRGs) participate in national coordination and reporting processes.
