Dear CIB members and network,
We hope that 2022 started off well for you! CIB's year definitely did, with a dynamic work plan 2022 meeting on the 27th of January, on which you will find more info below.
Now that the work plan 2022 has been finalized, we are preparing for various interesting activities, including an in-person CIB annual meeting in Sint-Niklaas, Belgium, on 8-9 June! Make sure to mark this in your calendars! Logistical information and the draft agenda will be shared with members very soon.
Don't want to wait until June to reconnect with other CIB members? Make sure you become engaged in the development of the UCLG-CIB policy paper on development cooperation, or come meet us at the CIB sessions (on SDG reporting/VSRs and on the policy work) at the UCLG retreat later this month!
Two other useful tools for information exchange are the CIB compendium (a database of ongoing international programmes of CIB members) and the events calendar on our website. You can add your own events (new option; press ‘submit my event’ on the right side of the webpage) and programmes, at any time!
See you soon!
Warm regards,
The CIB secretariat

One year ago, a military coup happened in Myanmar and VNG International project activities came to a standstill. Their project partner, Loka Ahlinn, immediately put all activities on hold, strongly rejecting this illegitimate coup. In line with the European Union and the Government of the Netherlands, VNG International adopted the principle of non-engagement with the regime but remained committed to support the people in Myanmar and keep our governance focus. VNG International drafted a paper which captures the Dutch association efforts of the past year, continuing two local governance projects and learning and developing a crisis approach.
GEO for Cities aims to inform, engage and support dialogue among city decision makers and other actors involved in urban issues. The GEO-6 report, published in 2019, identified urbanization as one of five main drivers of environmental change and also looked at the impact on cities and city residents of related challenges such as climate change, biodiversity loss and pollution. The GEO for Cities looks at these issues but also presents the types of solutions that can lead to environmentally sustainable and just cities.
