Capacity and Institution Building (CIB) Working Group

The Working Group on Capacity and Institution Building (CIB) of the world organization of United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) builds on a practitioners tradition within UCLG´s founding organisations. The Working Group is a technical platform for professionals from Local Government Associations (LGAs) and individual local governments active in the field of capacity development and local government development cooperation.

A pool of knowledge

The overarching goal of the platform is to gain more attention and recognition for local government development cooperation, within and outside of UCLG. By bringing together professionals of this type of cooperation, a pool of knowledge is built and exchange can take place of most effective methodologies of capacity building to achieve concrete results on the ground.

Exchange and coordination of programmes

The CIB Working Group aims to discuss and exchange information on developments in local government development cooperation, in order to enhance the quality of this work, and to coordinate activities and programmes in order to avoid overlap and duplication of efforts. This website provides information about the programmes of CIB members and contains a compendium of key tools and publications.

Leadership

The CIB Working Group is chaired by VNG International, the international cooperation agency of the Association of Netherlands Municipalities (VNG).The Working Group serves as a technical resource base for political committees of UCLG, and is linked to the Committee on Development Cooperation and City Diplomacy.
