CIB Member SLK International has published a new report on Muncipal International Cooperation between the Swedish municipalities of Boras and Helsingborg, and the Indonesian cities of Palu and Probolinggo. The cooperation is based on sustainable urban planning, using the SymbioCity approach.

SymbioCity approaches urban development with the belief that processes – and not only technical solutions – gradually move us towards improved living conditions. According to SLK International, the SymbioCity Approach doesn’t provide ready-made solutions to all urban challenges. Instead it offers support to locally elected representatives, officials and activists who are committed to developing properly planned and managed cities where people work, access services, enjoy cultural activities and fulfill their dreams.

The SymbioCity Approach is centered around the believe that everything in a city is connected: waste, transport, energy, water, environment, economy and happiness.Cooperation between the people responsible for managing these sectors is key to successfull sustanaible urban development in this approach. In this way, SymbioCity aims to provide a healthy and livable city environment for growing urban populations while reducing our ecological footprint.
