Preparatory meetings of the UN Development Cooperation in Berlin, 20-21 March 2014

In preparation of the fourth UN Development Cooperation Forum on 10-11 July 2014, a High-Level Symposium will take place in Berlin, Germany, on 20-21 March 2014, as for a local governments meeting on the 19th of March.

The High-Level Symposium will focus on "Accountable and effective development cooperation in a post-2015 era". Main questions that will be asserted during the meetings are:

UN Development Cooperation Forum

This year the fourth UN Development Cooperation Forum (UN DCF) is being held on 10-11 July, 2014, in New York by the United Nations Economic Social Council.

The aim of this event is to review trends and progress in international development cooperation and to promote greater coherence among the development activities of different development partners.

This year’s event will advance global dialogue on the future of development cooperation in the post-2015 era. The main objectives of the 2014 UN DCF will be:

UCLG Champion attends High Level Symposium Berlin 20-21 March

High Level Symposium Berlin

In preparation of the fourth UN Development Cooperation Forum on 10-11 July 2014, a High-Level Symposium took place in Berlin, Germany, on 20-21 March 2014.

UCLG Champion Célestine K. Courtés was present at this meeting, along with 200 other participants, including seven local governments.

The official opening ceremony contributed to the definition of the sought objectives of the Development Cooperation Forum. The meeting in Berlin mainly focused on:

The evaluation of the Millennium Development Goals, in terms of strengths, weaknesses, threats and opportunities;

UCLG Champions to promote local government development cooperation

UCLG Policy Paper

On 16 and 17 January, the UCLG Capacity and Institution Building (CIB) Working Group will provide a training to a group of elected local government officials from around the world. In the years ahead, these so-called Champions will advocate the key messages from the UCLG policy paper on Development Cooperation and Local Government at conferences and meetings of relevant organizations.
